Published in the Uvalde, TX - Leader-News 2003-5-22 Claude R. "C.R." Sutton, 82, of Big Spring, formerly of Uvalde, died May 18, 2003, at his residence. Sutton was a medical doctor and had a general practice in Uvalde for 24 years. He was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Marfa, and later married Mary Schwartz, who preceded him in death. He then married Cynthia Katharine McGary Aug. 21, 1975, in San Antonio. Sutton served his country as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. After practicing medicine in Uvalde, Sutton did his residency in psychiatry in North Little Rock, Ark. After completing his residency he returned to Texas and worked at the state hospital in Terrell. He then moved to Big Spring and worked for the Veterans Administration Medical Center and the state hospital before becoming ill. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Rosemary Efantis of Alvin; two sons, George Lee Sutton of Uvalde and C.R. Sutton III of Australia; one stepdaughter, Kathleen McGary of Round Rock; one stepson, Kevin R. McGary of Cedar Creek; one foster daughter, Linda Tennant of Flippin, Ark.; 14 grandchildren, Thomas L. Sutton of Uvalde, George R. Sutton of Iraq, Dicey Lee Efantis of Oregon, Tony Efantis of Alvin, John Efantis of Austin, Rio Schonberg of San Antonio, Shane McGary of College Station, Robin May of Leander, Rana Pedersen of Pflugerville, Christopher K. Bantz of Round Rock, Kelly Swicegood of Forest, Ill., and Tony Barnett, Patrick McGary and Trevor McGary, all of Cedar Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews. She taught high school in Wheaton, Ill., and Baraboo. She then worked for several office furniture companies before opening her own store, A.E. Sutton Ltd., Madison. For the past four years, Alice lived in Reno, Nev., with her long-time companion, John R. Sumnicht. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Sutton of Columbus; two brothers, William (Sandy) of Columbus, and Robert (Jackie) of DeForest; many nieces; nephews; several aunts; other relatives and friends.
