Unless your relatives were from North or South Dakota, there's little chance they were of Blackfoot ancestory. In fact, if you go to the Blackfoot nation's web-site, the first thing they will advise you is this...when a child was born as a result of a union between an African American and a member of one of the Five Civilized nations, the offspring was called "a blackfoot". My suggestion is to check into what nation lived in the area where you ancestor was from, could be Chactow, Cherokee...or any of the other five nations. A relative being called a "blackfoot" is a very good lead.... chuck sutton
Hi! I'm new to this list. I'm looking for the parents of Israel Sutton who was born about 1821 in Pennsylvania. His children included John Quincy Adams Sutton, and George Washington Sutton. I don't have the other names right now. John Quincy Sutton was my grandfather. My father, Lloyd Deyo Sutton passed away in 2002, and his father had died went he was a young boy, so he couldn't get any information about his grandfather, Israel. (I did find a census record for him.) Anyway I would really appreciate any information that anyone has. Thanks in advance. One solution would be to unsubscribe from Letter mode (SUTTON-L) and subscribe to Digest mode (SUTTON-D)..the difference being twenty letters with one message versus one daily digest with twenty messages.
