The Leavenworth Advertiser December 29, 1899 Mrs. Emma Sutton, widow of former city detective George S. Sutton, died at her home, Fifth and Pottowatomie streets at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning after an illness of several weeks with neuralgia of the heart. She leaves two children, Nellie age 8 and Roy, age, also a stepson, Henry Sutton who is in Colorado.(Emily "Emma Preston"Sutton died Dec 26, 1899 December 2004 - Emma is buried at Mt Muncie Cemetery in Leavenworth, Ks Does any Sutton out there know of Henry Sutton. Of coincidence Nellie and her husband were in Meeker Colorado in 1910 for the birth of their first child - but I did not find a Henry Sutton in census there. DETECTIVE SUTTON IS DEAD Leavenworth Times June 11, 1898 Suffered from injuries received several years ago. Ex- City Detective George S. Sutton died at his residence 507 Ottawa Street at 2o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Sutton was fifty five years of age and has been a resident of this city about twenty years. He leaves his widow and three children. two boys and one girl. Henry Sutton the oldest and a son from his first wife is an employee of the electric road. Mr. Sutton was a member of American Lodge No. 122; A. O. U. W. and leaves $4000.00 insurance. He was a member of the police force for nearly 15 years and in attempting to arrest a soldier several years ago, he was hit on the side of the head with a rock. This wound did not trouble him until several months ago when he was taken down with an attack of the brain fever from which he never recovered. He was taken to the state asylum February 8, but brought home two weeks ago. The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 o'clock from the residence 505 Ottawa Street. Dr. Bright will conduct the service at the residence and the Woodmen at the grave. Born February 12, 1920 in Bay City, MI. Evelyn grew up, married and began raising her family in Flint, MI. She moved to Rochester Hills, MI in 1971, retired to Palm Beach Shores, FL in 1988, and moved to Reno, NV in 2003 to be closer to two of her children. Throughout her life, Evelyn was committed to various volunteer work. John was very active in the community. He was elected to the South Dearborn School Board, serving as president for two years, and was in the Dearborn County Toastmasters Club, Aurora Lions Club, Dearborn County Chamber of Commerce, Dearborn County Park Board, and Riverview Cemetery Board of Managers and the Aurora Library Board. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aurora. After his retirement from accounting in 1997, he served five years as Treasurer of the Presbyterian Church. Pernie was born in Nauvoo, Alabama on March 3, 1925. She moved to Dallas in 1959. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Leveda Sue Howell , her husband, Robert Sutton, her parents, Marvin C. and Susie O'Mary Barton, Her brother and all of her sisters. Pernie is survived by her two children, Peggy Howell of Houston, and Phil Howell of Brownsville; granddaughter, Kristen (Mitch) Scalf of Coppell, plus numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews in Alabama. Pernie was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, wife and friend. She worked for over 30 years for A.T.&T. and Southwestern Bell Telephone. Pernie was active in her union throughout her career and after her retirement with the Pioneers. After her retirement, Pernie volunteered at Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children, and the Dallas County Heritage Society (Old City Park). Pernie Sutton is a member of Mesquite Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm at North Dallas Funeral Home on Monday, October 25. A group of Suttons emigrated to Australia in in the 1790's on the second fleet as free settlers. however another Sutton came to Australia in 1852 Sydney Sutton. Our family are confused as to which is our ancestor, the original settler family or the lonley propecter turned farmer. Any help you could give would be appreciated
