I don't think we are connected as I found out my great grandfather was actually called Patrick Joseph Sutton, born 1883 in Bray, I don't know who his parents were or his first wife(my great grandmother), who died when my grandfather was only a toddler, his second wife was Sarah St Leger, who we think was born in Wicklow, but her family were from France. I don't know of any Mannings in the family, but like I said I do not know who his parents were, sorry if this is of no help. Thank you Kate. ps merry christmas and a happy new year.

    3. thank you this was wonderful information!!!! This filled in a few blanks on this family. I have Philip Sutton m. Sarah Jane Scott Robbins on 2/23/1868 in TX. I would like to add more info on you Emma Linne Sutton: birth, death and marriage dates and locations, husbands info, etc if you want to share. If you'd like, I'd be happy to post the newspaper accounts of Phillip Suttons death on our web page for all to enjoy. Thank you for sharing with all of us. belinda melton hughes www.bjhughes.org -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 2004 11:29 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [SUTTON] Lemerlus Jane SUTTON & Jesse VAN WINKLE For the benefit of the list, here is just about everything I know about this couple: As to her NAME: I first found her in the 1860 Arkansas census records, in Prairie, Washington County, with her family, where she is listed as JANE. Ten years later, she is found in the 1870 Lampasas County, Texas census again with the family, refered to as "LEMERLUS" (the last two letters - "u" and "s" - are only slightly unclear. Her age, birthplace, siblings, parentage, etc. all agree with this being JANE from the previous census.) Then, three years later, the Lampasas County, Texas marriage records listed her as "L. J. Sutton". Thus, reasonable deduction from three sources combined "Jane", plus "Lemerlus", plus "L. J." to produce my "Lemerlus Jane Sutton" entry. Jane Suttons mother, Tennessee Sutphin Sutton, died when Jane was about 11. Her father Philip remarried Sarah Jane Scott Robbins a year or two later. Each had children by previous unions, and produced children together as well (including my great grandmother Emma Linne Sutton). Two months after Jane and Jesse VanWinkle married, papa Philip was shot dead by the law at his farm while harboring a step-daughters young horse-thief husband (I have the "official details" of this often-varied story, taken from newspaper accounts of the time). Jane and Jesse had - apparently - three children based on yet unconfirmed information I have received from other kind Sutton researchers: Lennie, Bettie and Mary Van Winkle. I know nothing of their spouses, children, vital statistics etc. I do not know when and where Jane and Jesse Van Winkle lived and died. This information would be GREATLY appreciated from anyone who has details, since I lost their trail after their 1873 Lampasas, Texas marriage. I hope this info helps some of you, and please share if you have information on any related SUTTON line.
