Dear Listers My 3rd x great grand uncle is Samuel STILES baptised 8 July 1792 in Wadhurst Sussex to parents John STILES and Ann AVARD. STYLES not surprisingly varies being spelt with a Y and an I. I have found a Samuel STYLES who marries Mary PESTIFIELD on 16 December 1824 in West Grinstead, Sussex, and they duly appear on the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 census until Samuel dies in 1875, staying in West Grinstead throughout. The question is, is he 'my' Samuel STILES. If anyone has access to parish records for West Grinstead for 1824, could they please look up the marriage for me? Unfortunately there is no image on familysearch.org. If the marriage records says Samuel STILES is 'of this parish', then it may be the wrong person but hopefully it will conveniently say 'of the parish of Wadhurst'. Or possibly the witnesses names will help me tie it together. Here's hoping. Thanks June
Hi June The Sussex Marriage Index CD has this marriage - no image just brief details. Both couples are ' of this parish' (i.e West Grinstead. No witnesses are mentioned on the entry. There is no other marriage on this disc for a Samuel Stiles/Styles.
