Hi, My 4x great grandfather ran an inn called the Pitt´s Head in the parish of Cuckfield. The inn of that name is long gone but, from googling Pitt´s Head I have seen references to Pitt´s Head crossroads, sadly not noted on any map I´ve found. Does anyone know the names of the roads at this crossroads so I can pin it down as I am assuming that the name of the crossroads is where the inn stood. Thanks, Diane
Pitts Head Crossroads Warninglid, West Sussex a.. A23 b.. B2115 Sloughgreen Lane c.. B2115 Cuckfield Lane TQ267259 Found a reference to the above on Wikipedia. The TQ link doesn't seem too helpful though. Hi Diane, Pitt's Head Crossroads is the Warninglid junction of the A23 - currently undergoing huge roadworks. I have had a look on old-maps.co.uk but cannot find a pub near there but it might be worth looking around those maps. What time period are we looking at? hth, Anne > Date: Sat, 28 Sep 2013 12:27:28 +0200 > From: thewynnes@gmail.com > To: SUSSEX-PLUS@rootsweb.com > Subject: [SXP] Pitt´s Head crossroads Cuckfield > > Hi, > > My 4x great grandfather ran an inn called the Pitt´s Head in the parish of > Cuckfield. > > The inn of that name is long gone but, from googling Pitt´s Head I have > seen references to > Pitt´s Head crossroads, sadly not noted on any map I´ve found. > > Does anyone know the names of the roads at this crossroads so I can pin it > down as I am assuming that the name of the crossroads is where the inn > stood. > > Thanks, > Diane > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SUSSEX-PLUS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
