Greetings Listers I'm trying to estimate the birth year - and possible parentage - of my ancestor Robert PERIGOE. He is listed (in Maresfield in Sussex) as a Godfather on 6 Feb 1568(9). The surname goes back to John PERAGO (PERIGO or PERIGOE) who emigrated from Picardie in 1513. Is he likely to have been an adult at this time, or would a child be allowed to stand as Godfather? I have marriage information for several PERIGOE (however spelt!) men in the right area of Sussex around the right time. I may be able to eliminate one or two if Robert was older than, say, 10 in 1568. His life ended in 1617 when he was hanged for burglary at Nordern's Cross in Hastings. Would records still be available that just MAY list an age? (Ever hopeful!!) Any thoughts please? Many thanks Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia
