Could someone who is more familiar with Hastings that I am tell me what this refers to please? Other churches that I'm aware of existing at the time were All Saints' and possibly St Mary in the Castle. Could St Mary's have been dedicated to St Mary Magdalene (Mawdlyne) rather than any other Mary? If anyone else has BOURN connections in Hastings, I'd be delighted to hear from you. Many thanks Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SUSSEX-PLUS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Mawdlyn or any other variation is how Magdalene is pronounced (presumably it is in brackets after Magdalene to help the uninitiated). St Mary in the Castle is a different parish to St Mary Magdalene which I think is technically now in St Leonards-on-Sea but goodness knows how it could have been classified in the 1600s.
