Hello, I was a member of this list some years ago. I've found my MAYNARD clan beginning in 1600's in Bodiam, SSX and traced to my immigrant, William, and his wife, Sarah Kemp (Widow PHILLIPS) 1851 to Indiana, USA. Sarah married (1) William Phillips, born in Goudhurst, Kent, 1796, died before 1828. I don't know when or where they married. They had 1 child, Mary Ann Phillips, born in Bodiam, Dec. 1822.. She married 16 Dec. 1843, John GLADWISH in Bodiam. He was born in Bodiam to John and Mary GLADWISH, 10 Oct. 1819. In 1841, John GLADWISH was in Rye, SSX as a single man and living in a boarding house. In 1843 he was in Bodiam marrying Mary Ann Phillips. In 1844 he was in Tice, SSX where his child, John GLADWISH, was born, 1 Dec. 1844 (or baptized). I know they arrived in the USA 8 April 1857.on the ship Christiana. Their last name was spelled GLADISH on the passenger list and it does have alternate spellings, with a double D sometimes. So 1851 is the last record I need. They were still in England somewhere. They were not located in the 1851 soundex with GLADW* so it might take a bit of searching to find the right spelling. I don't have access to this census. The family was very close to their families, both sides, so I would like to find out more about the GLADWISH(s) by ordering parish film, a hopeless task unless I can get some hits. I didn't find any earlier Gladwish(s) in Bodiam or even death records for his parents. Rye Parish is already on my rental list. Thanks for reading this. My SSX and Kent surnames (and pretty well researched so far) are CLOUT, KEMP, GOLDEN, MAYNARD.
