Hi Suzie, Ive been trying to unravel your problem for you. Im researching Walders of Rogate and my great grandparents were Alfred and Maria (maiden name Hoare by the way) whose son Frederick was baptised on 5th April 1857. He was still in the area in 1906 because he was present at Alfreds death according to the death certificate but of course he could have been visiting. His address was Terwick but then so was his fathers, so that doesnt mean much. I havent done much research on him, my direct ancestor was Ernest Charles Walder who was my grandfather and also of course Alfreds and Marias son. Where does the name Frederick come in? Ive seen the marriage entry for John Walden at St Geo Hanover Sq in 1884 but no mention of Frederick. John Walder son of William and Elizabeth was baptised at Rogate on 6th April 1851(again part of my family) and William died in Rogate in September 1881. There was also a John Walder son of John and Mary Walder baptised at Rogate on 4th May 1856. Could that have been him? The surname Walder was also Waller in the Rogate area so have you tried Waller? Also people who said they were born in Rogate were often born (or at least baptised) in Terwick which is just outside Rogate and as far as I can see contains a church and a few farms etc but not much else. Lovely area though! Im not sure if this is helpful to you but it might help to eliminate someone. Good luck Margett
