    3. Hi List, I am hoping someone can help me or even be related. I have been searching for the last 27yrs details of my GGGrandfather JOHN THOMAS SMITH family. We knew he was born around 1850 but did not know where or when or how he came to Australia or if other members of his family came with him. We did have the name of George Smith a Vet Surgeon as his father & Ann Dash as his mother, I don't know where from, & have not been able to verify that. Visiting a cousin twice removed for the first time, found that she had the bible belonging to him with his birth date as 3 February 1851 born at Arundel in the UK and he was given the Bible at St Peters Sunday School 3rd October 1865. Well since then, searching the 1851 Census could only come up with a Thomas John Smith who was 3 mths old born at Hastings Sussex to Joeseph & Eliza Smith. This could be him???? Here in Australia on his marriage certificate & in the bible it does have his name as John Thomas. The marriage certificate does not give his age or parents names. Anyone in the Arundel area that can help solve the mistery, is their a John Thomas, or could it be this Thomas John Many thanks in advance Karen Goldcoast Australia

    3. Hi Karen 1. On the 1841 there is a John Smith aged 6 giving his birth around 1845 and seeing as you have his birthdate this negates that, BUT interestingly his parents are Thomas and Jane in Arundel Ssx. Perhaps an IGI parent search for Sussex might find a John with a brother Thomas in Arundel??????? 2. There are a few possibles for the 1851 using Sussex as the guide on ancestry. 3. May I suggest you try to find his immigration records. In Adelaide South Oz there is a mine of information to be obtained from the Maritime Museum at Port Adelaide. Immigration records should be available at the main library in your state. A few phone calls will ascertain where is the best place to start in Queensland. 4. The parish Registers for Arundel would be another likely starting point. I did the PR's along with a genie cousin of mine and we got over three hundred years of Parkers in Two reels. Well worth it if they didn't move. Even to find his parents it is worth $5-00 per reel. Check where your local LDS is and go from there.
