    3. On the 1861 census my COUZENS family occupation(s) is Shoemaker, Post Office and Bakery. When I was in Sussex back in 1999 I tried to locate this house on maps at the RO without success.. Is there another means to find this place? Would there be a book detailing such history? Today the General Store & Post Office is located down the laneway from the Selsey Arms Inn. This is not the same place as back in 1861. Sincerely GAIL in Ontario

    3. Census takers walked a route and the properties were listed in that order. Have you tried to identify any of the neighbouring properties - that is use a map to "walk" the route of the census taker? That might help to pin down the building, if it is still standing. 3. Hi Gail Gail try www.old-maps.co.uk Online ordanance maps. have you tried the historical directories online? Although not a map, will give you insight into when they were there and possibly how long for. www.historicaldirectories.org By doing a google Search of "West Dean" + Post office this came up for a George Couzens in 1867. He is also listed as a shoemaker. http://steve.pickthall.users.btopenworld.com/ssx1867/westdean-chichester1867.html Hope this adds some meat on the bones.
