    3. Hi Harvey, Found Edward Fudge & his brother William on the 1841 UK census, in High Halstow, Kent (same area as Isle of Grain), both recorded as age 20 (ages rounded down to nearest 5 years), and working as Male Servants. From IGI, they appear to be the youngest sons of 7 children baptised in St Werburg, Hoo, Kent to Edward and Ann Fudge (William b. 1818 and Edward 1820). Also from IGI, the death of Edward Fudge senior in 1827 and a possible marriage to Ann Burges in Chatham, Kent in 1802. Most of the others on the same census page were either farmers or agricultural labourers, but given the proximity to the sea, and places like Chatham (a naval base), there would have been mariners in the area at the time. Hope this helps (if you want a copy of the 1841 census image, I can send it off-list. Regards, Andrea On Sun Oct 21 8:04 , Harvey & Eileen Bates sent: I have just received a copy of a obituary for EDWARD FUDGE who died in 1911 in South Australia. His obit states that he arrived in Australia in 1849 from "The Isle of Grain" Kent. Can anyone shed any light on his English family and what the usual occupations were in this area of England at that time. Many thanks, Harvey in Adelaide, Sth.
