I have family shown residing at 179 North Wall Lewes in 1901. Is there anybody on this list who knows where this is/was, I'm unable to find it on modern Lewes Streetmaps. Very many thanks Tony
Hi Tony, According to a 1938 map on www.old-maps.co.uk the site of the old town wall is along Brook Street (see www.streetmap.co.uk ) and I assume that the wall then came around with Lancaster Street at the southern end. There is a North Street in the vicinity. On the 1899 map Brook Street is not named but the are a few houses along there. Have a look at the surrounding streets in the 1901 census - it might give you an idea of where it was. What is the census ref? cheers, Anne > From: tony@tbakerakf.orangehome.co.uk> To: sussex-plus@rootsweb.com> Date: Wed, 10 Oct 2007 11:54:25 +0200> Subject: [SXP] North Wall, Lewes> > I have family shown residing at 179 North Wall Lewes in 1901.
