I too have an entry like this, in 1940, where BOTH surnames (maiden and first marriage) were shown against the entry for the man, and the woman was listed twice, once under each surname. In this case I was able to find the first marriage - but I think the sequence of the 2 surnames was purely alphabetical, as the first name listed was her 1st married name. I found this very useful but have not managed to find any information about 1) whether this was a standard practice or just occasional 2) if it WAS standard, when did it start? Does anyone else have any more information about this? Regards, Andrea
