I have a sampler worked by Mary WHIFFIN aged 12 in 1759. It was given to my mother by her aunt Edith PAYNE of Uckfield. I've always wondered if there was a family connection but haven't managed to find one yet. Some family names are PAYNE (Shoosmith, Lambert, Stace), and ELPHICK (Smith, Johnson, Wratten) All east Sussex.. IGI would indicate a possible Kent connection. Are there any Whiffin researchers with ideas? Paula
