Hi, as you are all sitting around doing nothing I thought you could all do with a little puzzle to keep your brains active! Sarah Carpenter was born abt 1834 at Birdham, near Chichester, West Sussex. In 1852 she married Robert William Rodgers/Rogers, mariner, born abt 1826 in Ireland. She is with her family at West Itchenor (next to Birdham) in the 1861 and 1871 census, and had 7 children. In the 1881 census Robert is working in near by Selsey and is recorded as married. With him is his brother Richard (who is in the census twice, he is with his wife at Itchenor as well!) In the 1891 census at Itchenor Robert is with various family members and is again down as married, he died in the June of that year and is buried at Itchenor church. I then have a burial on June 2nd 1915 at Itchenor of a Sarah Rogers, buried aged 85yrs old from Kingston Lunatic Asylum. In the free BMD June Qtr 1915 at Portsmouth a death of a Sarah Rogers aged 80yrs old. I know there is a Kingston in Portsmouth and I know of the prison there, but have not found a asylum. I don't think its Kingston in Surrey. I have tried, and failed to find this poor lady in the 1881/1891 and 1901 censuses with out any luck. Regards, Heather Brooks
