Hello Listers I have come across a note gleaned some time in the past that in 1671, a John ROBINS of St Pancras, Chichester, was listed on the Hearth Tax roll. As I have ROBINS ancestry in Chichester - with them going back and forth to the Portsmouth area with some regularity - I'm interested in finding out more about this John. My 8 x ggf, John ROBINS, was buried in Alverstoke on 17 June 1672, with the Inventory taken on 28 June. His Will is dated 24 Apr 1672 and probated possibly on 9 Jan 1672(3) - in Latin, so a bit difficult to be sure. He mentions 2 sons in his Will - Thomas and John - and wife Alice, but her Will in Hampshire in 1684(5) indicates clearly that she was not their mother. My immediate query is this: how can I find out more about John ROBINS of the 1671 Hearth Tax please? Was he a 'commuting' ROBINS too? As he was a Mariner, Chichester and Portsmouth would be within easy reach of each other. Many thanks. Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia
