    1. [SXP] Sussex Hop tokens - prices up

    3. Greetings, I have mentioned Hop tokens a number of times on this list and have just had an interesting e-mail exchange with a dealer. It does seem that the value of these tokens has risen considerably recently due to some competitive bidding on e-bay. It is difficult to say wether these prices will be sustained although in the long term I suspect not. This is bourne out by my own experience and the dealers. If you do have some to sell - maybe this is a good time to do so:-) Background. For those new to hop tokens - these were small 'coins' issued by individual farmers as payment for work done in the fields. The tokens could be spent in the 'farm shop' and exchanged for real money at the end of the harvest. Many farms in Sussex and Kent issued these tokens which were made from lead, or some other cheap alloy. As a direct link to ones family history they are rather fun to collect. Look out for books written by Henderson eg Hop Tokens of Kent and Sussex and Their Issuers by A.C. Henderson -- Kind Regards Eddie Lord Researching: LORD; REEVES; SELDEN; FREWEN
