    3. Hello List I am looking for my Read ancestors I have Charles Read born c1821 born Chichester son of George and Jane (nee ?Osgood- born Wiltshire). Jane appears on the 1841 census in Chichester St Pancras area. The name is spelt Reid. George is missing but Jane is there with daughters Rebecca and Ellen and Charles. I can find no trace of George the father). Jane is a beer seller (what exactly is a beer seller if anyone would be so kind to tell me). 1842 Charles marries Harriett and on the marriage cert - George is named as father and there is a signature of a George Read. Rebecca is a witness. 1851 census - Jane and Rebecca are living in the East Gate area of Chichester - beer sellers. Jane states that she is a widow. (Rebecca never marries and I have not traced the other daughter Ellen as yet). I have found a death of George Reed dec 1847 Chichester but if this is so where is he on the 1841 census. Jane Read dies in Dec 1854 Chichester. Charles and his family live in the Sub Deanery area of Chichester and then move to Portsea around 1880's. By 1901 Harriett Read is living with her son Thomas in West Dean where Thomas is a gamekeeper on the West Dean Estate. The only death I can find for a Harriett Read is East Grinstead age 78 Sept 1902. I am intending on ordering the certs for positive identification. I was wondering if anyone had any links to this family? Would West Dean come under the East Grinstead area for registering deaths or would I assume that the family moved towards there? And where was George on the 1841 census? Any help or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks
