Hello All, I am hoping someone can make some comments about the recorded occupation of John Summersell Thorns in the 1901 Census, RG13/948F9p10 John is listed as a Relieving Officer births and deaths in several Census reports but 1901 adds the following which I have not seen before ---Vaccination Officer and Elector of the Guardians--- Its not entirely clear as the checking marks tend to overwrite the original words but I would like to see your various comments Phil White in New Hampshire Roots in Sussex & IOW
Hi Phil, This site may explain his role more - http://www.data-archive.ac.uk/findingData/snDescription.asp?sn=4127. I wonder if he was a 'selector of guardians' - perhaps involved in who would look after an orphan? If you search on 'relieving officer and vaccination officer' you will find a number of references especially in workhouses. It might be worth searching http://www.historicaldirectories.org/ and http://www.workhouses.org.uk/. hth, Anne > Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2007 21:25:43 -0400> From: pwgrandmapa@comcast.net> To: SUSSEX-PLUS@rootsweb.com> Subject: [SXP] Occupation> > Hello All, I am hoping someone can make some comments about the recorded > occupation of John Summersell Thorns in the 1901 Census, RG13/948F9p10> John is listed as a Relieving Officer births and deaths in several > Census reports but 1901 adds the following which I have not seen before> ---Vaccination Officer and Elector of the Guardians--- > Its not entirely clear as the checking marks tend to overwrite the > original words but I would like to see your various comments Phil > White in New Hampshire Roots in Sussex & IOW> > > -------------------------------> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SUSSEX-PLUS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message _________________________________________________________________ 100’s of Music vouchers to be won with MSN Music https://www.musicmashup.co.uk
