Hello Listers, I vaguely remember that not so long back, someone was researching the family name PIPER with submissions to this list. While clearing some of my no longer wanted printed matter, I came across an article about a Cabin Steward named George Piper who drowned off the coast near Brighton in 1889. This one page article was printed in Vol. 14, No 1, March 2000 of the magazine produced by The SUSSEX FAMILY GROUP. Hoping that I might help the "Piper" lister, I have saved the relevant page and would willingly pass it on to any interested party. Sincerely, Doug Eldridge in Australia.

Hello Doug, I may be the lister you were thinking of with a 'Piper' in the family. Unfortunately, 'my' George was a shoemaker and died between 1851 and 1861. Thanks for the thought - perhaps there is another Piper researcher with 'your' George in his family.
