Hello List, Does anyone know if Hailsham had their own newspaper in 1872. My great grandmother left her husband and daughters in 1872, for reasons unknown to us. She went to New Zealand on the Himalaya with my gt grandfather. I wondered if there was a newspaper at that time and if it is on film? It crossed my mind her husband George Lavender may have put an advert in the paper looking for her. Then again, he may have thrown her out of the home. Also are there Hailsham Workhouse records on film. If so, were records kept describing the state of the person admitted. For example, three young girls, would the records state if the parents had deceased or missing? Regards Leslea Queensland. AUS No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Hi Leslea, East Sussex Records Office holds workhouse records http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Hailsham/Hailsham.shtml (scroll down to the bottom of the page). There appears to be a Hailsham Gazette http://www.solarnavigator.net/media/hailsham_gazette.htm - don't know how old it is but may be worth contacting them. This is a list of the periodicals etc held by ESRO http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/0B46695E-7F22-4657-A20C-3664E5BCBCCF/0/periodicalslistseptember2005.pdf hth, Anne > From: g.linnett@bigpond.com> To: sussex-plus@rootsweb.com> Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2008 21:29:24 +1000> Subject: [SXP] Hailsham Newspapers circa 1872> > > Hello List,> Does anyone know if Hailsham had their own newspaper in 1872.
