Hello folkss, hope all the detectives are awake and ready but here is a Dewdney puzzle Samuel Dewdney bn May 1777 at Shermanbury married a Mary Cowdrey 18 Nov 1811 at St Nicholas Brighton and we know they had a son George who married a Harriet Gates There was also a possible daughter Mary for Samuel and Mary, but here is the problem The 1851 Census HO107/1747F340p16 for son George which shows Mary, now married to an Un-named ROSS, listed in the Census as a sister age 50 or born 1801. If she is a sister to George then it would appear she was an illegitimate dau of mar Cowdrey, bn 10 years before her marriage. The other possibility is that she was a sister to George's wife Harriet Gates who was not present in the Census but was alive according to her death record dated Mar Qtr 1852. Harriet was of Sompting, and that is where she was married Would appreciate any and all ideas, help and look ups Phil White of New Hampshire USA Roots in Sussex & IOW
