I am happy to try and help where I can, but the search that you have requested could be a very long one and really needs to be narrowed down, otherwise several hours of research is likely to be needed. Ardingly has five contiguous parishes viz Lindfield, West Hoathly, Worth, Balcombe and Cuckfield. If the baptism isn't found in one of those, then taking the next concentric ring of parishes around Ardingly will involve a search of an additional 12 parishes, some of which are in West Sussex and some are in East Sussex. Secondly, William is a very common Christian name at that time and searching for a baptism without knowing his surname is likely to throw up a large number of potential candidates. You state that his potential parents are John LEOPARD & Catherine who married in 1691. As you have found the marriage, why is it that Catherine's Maiden name is unknown? Also, it is a tradition that a bride marries in her own parish, where was the marriage, please? That would be the first place to search for the baptism. I am trying to find the birth record of William born around 1690. We believe his parents may have been John LEOPARD & Catherine? However John & Catherine married in 1691 and all their children after this are included in the Ardingly Parish Records. One possibility is that if William was born before John and Catherine were able to marry did Catherine take him to a nearby Parish for baptism? Not knowing Catherine's surname does not help but if anyone is able to check the surrounding Records for a William born to a Catherine around 1690, it would be much appreciated Nick Leppard ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SUSSEX-PLUS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
