    3. Dear Listers First a very Happy New Year to all I also need to than everyone who helped me with requests last year - I was unable to reply for a while due to illness and family problems, so please forgive my tardiness. I do always appreciate the help given. My present problem is regarding locating a Mr WOOLGAR who is recorded as a relative in records of Steyning Union Workhouse, with an address of 38 Lanfranc Road, Worthing. The exact date is unclear due to an extended period being referred to in the records and I do not have an initial for this person. I found an on-line directory but that is for 1915 and is not relevant. The earlier, 1905, Sussex directory which is available on-line does not record Lanfranc Road and the references to WOOLGAR's are not relevant either in this case. I cannot get to Worthing myself at the moment or I would look up the directories in the library there. If anyone can assist I would be extremely grateful. Mr WOOLGAR may have been staying with whoever is the official resident of the address so any names may be of help. Regards Helen Helen Shipley

    3. Helen, have you tried the Electoral Rolls for Worthing in that timeframe? Contact the Worthing library to see if they hold the E. Rolls, if not try the Chichester Records Office. I have found these Rolls very helpfull. Happy New Year, Jenny

    3. Thanks to those who responded. Perhaps I should have mentioned that Marion Woolgar and I often correspond and she has been of immense help to me over the years, as I know she has for so many others. We have already shared addresses related to my family, although I have yet to send her those I am working on at present. My query has been partially answered as I contacted Worthing Library and a very kind librarian looked up information for me. I haven't got to the bottom of why a Woolgar was listed in Steyning Union records as resident at 38 Lanfranc Road as the directory for the period concerned, c1905, does have anyone of that name listed but I do have a list now of all the WOOLGAR names which appear in the directory - courtesy of the aforesaid kind librarian. As I often the case I have more questions to answer and it is also possible that the record in the workhouse register was filled in from earlier information and may not have been current. It is a good job I like a challenge! If you read this Marion - I will be in touch soon with the information from Steyning Union - I have tried to note all WOOLGAR entries - I just have to do an essay for next Tuesday first!
