I am looking for information on the SWANE & CARTER families of Brighton, SUSSEX. They were Book Binders & Shoe Makers respectively. Hans Ernst (Henry Edward??) SWANE b. 1788, Copenhagen, Denmark, married Dinah ?? . He died in the Brighton Workhouse in 1870. They had three children that I know of: John Henry - b. 23 Jun 1817, Brighton - married Mary CARTER in 1849 in Hove, SUSSEX. Died between 1881-1891. Mary b. 1817, Burwash, died 1904, Workhouse, Brighton. Mary was the daughter of Joseph CARTER. They had 6 chn: Edgar Henry - (1850-1927 - NSW) Fanny b. abt 1852 Sidney Alfred b. 10 Apr 1854 - d. betweenm 1881-1891 John Murray b. abt 1857 Mary b. abt 1859 Ernest Albert b. Abt Oct. 1860 - d. 1944 - NSW) John Henry also had two other siblings which I know even less about: Jane b. bef. October 1823 Harriet b. bef.
