If you contact them and tell them what places you are interested in they will send you information about those places as well as maps. You can buy a rail pass for the U.K. here in the U.S. and can travel anywhere on it. I think they come in 1 week, 2 weeks etc. If you are going to be spending several days in London you can also get a bus and tube ticket which is really a great help as you don't need to have to cope with the money every time you get on a bus or the tube. On the Visit Britian website you can find out what times trains go from London to Lewes and back.
