We have a spare double room with ensuite & you would be welcome to make use of it.>>>> Kathy, I caught the train from Victoria Station down to SSX and even though you will be spending time in record offices, I feel that hiring a small car for a day or two will save you so much time. Maps are very explicit and driving is not on roads as busy as most in Ontario. >From another who has ventured many thousands of miles/kilometres to research in SSX......a little piece of advice.........dont think you are able to visit, Chichester, Lewes and the many other addresses/places of known family in a day or two! Make sure you have your homework done before you leave Canada, knowing the right record office for the records you wish to search and download maps for the list of addresses for where you wish to visit.. Ardingly / Lindfield is close to Haywards Heath - my family were on Hapstead Farm Ardingly, others in Haywards Heath and Lindfield. East Grinstead - a full day - anyone looking to read the PAYNE headstones in the Churchyard after we had been there would have been able to decipher most, and I might add, with a little help from the Bishop!) Lewes Record Office- 2 days if anything like Chichester (One place I didn't manage to visit). Chichester - 2 days with the help of Marion for one, and my hosts for another, I still had far more to find than I had time for. Can recommend the lucnh menu at the little pub on the corner 2 min. from this record office. 2-3 days were spent travelling the countryside to all the farms, household addresses etc I wanted to photograph - the present owners only too happy to have you call by and take you on a tour through. If you happen to do this, take an extra copy of all the information you have on your family having lived there.......the owners like to keep a history of the families who inhabited such places in years gone by. 2 days checking burial places with the historical/church folk in different villages. How long did you say you had for your trip down to SSX?? Regards Jenny Lake Macquarie NSW AUS
