Hi Maree, I think I have found him in 1851 and 1861 but he was born in Cowfold? This is not a million miles away from Cuckfield (about 5 actually!). He is living with his grandparents both times. By 1871 he has married and I can also find him in 1881 and 1891 if you would like the images. I think his birth may be Sept qtr 1846 Cuckfield vol 7 p333. This would find his parents so may allow you to find them in 1841. It looks like they may have died by 1851.
