    1. [SXP] Smuggler Jacob WALTER ( 1721 )
    2. >From Weekly Journal or Saturday's Post ( London, England ), Saturday, August 5, 1721; Issue 140. They write from Sussex of the 29th July, that a Party of Brigadier General Grove's Regiment of Foot had been in quest of Several Smuglers and Owlers on that Coast but that they all made their Escape, excepting one Jacob WALTER , a Ringleader amongst them, whom they took under a Bed at an Alehouse near Battle, and carry'd him Prisoner to the said Town, from whence he was brought hither on Wednesday last, and committed to the Fleet Prison. N.B. For anyone interested in the History of the Kent & Sussex Smugglers, there is a very good book available, called " Smuggling in Kent & Sussex 1700 - 1840 " By Mary Waugh. ( I have no connection to Mary Waugh, nor the publishers of the book, & only mention this as I have a copy & have enjoyed reading it. )
