    3. Many thanks Robin. I really need to find out who the parents were of Jeremiah, he could have been born around 1717 aged 20 when married but he could have been as young as 15 or 16. I think his baptism was registered at All Saints Chichester where he was married. He died in 1763. I am descended from his son Jeremiah born 1760 and married in Eastergate in 1797. He died in 1840. A lot of the family were from Eastergate around then. I have been in contact with a family in Australia who are part of my Northeast Tree so there must be some down under. The problem with research on the web is that points of the compass superceed any surname LOL. and yes we are a rare breed indeed.LOL. I have 73 on my data base but there must be loads more as I havent researched all the branches. Hello Eileen, I have found the following NORTHEAST marriages in Sussex pre-dating 1737. William Northeast married Martha Rusbridger. Walberton. 12.4.1722 Richard Northest married Mary Piper. Chichester. 15.10.1731 Ann Northeast married Robert Nash. Funtington. 9.11.1731 Elizabeth Northeast married William Blaybar. Chichester. 1.11.1733. The family was clustered around the Chichester are so may well have spilled over into Dorset. Northeast must be a mighty rare name as it is not in The Oxford Names Companion. It sounds like it could b e a topographical name. All the best, Robin From: eileen <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, 11 June, 2011 19:04:21 Subject: [SXP] NORTHEAST surname search. I have just found a cousin I knew very little about through the internet and I would dearly love to get further back in my Northeast surname search. I have recently been down to Brighton where I was born and went to seek out my Grandparents old Tavern in the Lanes where I lived from 1932 till 1935. The Model House Tavern, Meeting House Lane. It is now a lovely antique shop and the lady proprietess was very interested in its history and said she would try and look it up now. So when I returned I did the same and found an old Pubs site in which it was mentioned and my cousin had contributed a little bit. I contacted the website owner and asked for my details to be passed on to him and we have been catching up on the past. He is 75 and I am 78. My parents parted when I was a baby so I never really knew him. Its great. I have done loads of research and have a vast family tree but the Northeast line stops at 1737 in Chichester and I cant get back further. Jeremiah Northeast married in 1737 and died in 1763 and I have 5 children on the tree. I have a feeling they didnt get out of Sussex much but am curious as to where the name originated. I am tempted to join Ancestry again and wonder if this is the best option. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. sincerely Eileen (nee Northeast) http://www.epfranchi.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/page1.htm ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
