Can someone with access to the 1871 Census for Sussex please check the occupation for me. The reference is: RG10/1037 17/2, the name being William Fuller, birth year 1845 in Sussex. I think the occupation is either Stone Dresser or Stone Drawer (which I have not heard of). In the same household is William's brother James with the same occupation. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Regards Judy Berntsen New Zealand
Hi Judy Its seems clearly Stone Drawer in both cases in 1871 I have not found that as a specific occupation but a Coal Drawer was a Pit worker who pushed or pulled carts of coal (a dictionary of old trades - Colin Waters) So by inference you would suspect a stone drawer did the same in a quarry with stone Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Can someone with access to the 1871 Census for Sussex please check the > occupation for me. > > The reference is: RG10/1037 17/2, the name being William Fuller, birth year > 1845 in Sussex.
