Hi, confusion sometimes happens over "Westhampnett" There is a parish of Weshampnett the church is called St. Peter, and Westhampnett Registration District. This was made up of at least 46 parishes (including Barnham) and ran from 1837-1935 when it then came under Chichester District. I think Allan was baptised at Eastergate with at least six siblings, and a older brother baptised at Aldingbourne. Barnham and Aldingbourne are both just over a mile from Eastergate. Thanks Nivard. I have now written to my cousin Allan!(3rd generation) for details of dates from the certs if he has them, which I assummed he or someone has because he sent me corrections to some of the info I had put in the tree, and I have put the problem to him in a letter-he hasnt a computer and isnt into family history as a hobby/interest unfortunately! Hes a Golfer!. Thanks for the reference below, I will have a look and see if I can down load it. BMD records indicate that my Allan was born Dec Quarter of 1870 in Eastergate,(baptism record shows 6th November 1870) which is Westhamptnett so am not sure about 1869 in Barnham. He could have given the wrong info. They are mostly all Allan but have found Alan in one search which should have been Allan. Hoping to do as much as I can without travelling to the Archives from Brum. Many thanks again to both you and Jean. Am very grateful. Many thanks Heather. Yes there 12 siblings altogether and I have 6 at Eastergate, where they lived, including Allan, then there was Aldingbourne, Petworth, Felpham, Old Shoreham, Preston and Clapham. Have just realised that In 1871 they were living at Barnham Road so this is maybe where Allan the sailor got Barnham from. With all the help from everyone I seemed to have solved the original mystery and havent had to move from my PC!! Brilliant. so very many thanks everyone. You are stars.
