    3. Hi Jill, 1600's - well therein lies a problem. No registrations prior to 1837.........so BMD's this early are taken from the original Parish registers or the BT's (Bishops transcripts are copies of the Parish registers sent to the Bishop of the dicocese) Unlikely that witnesses will be recorded in the marriage in this time frame, although I have found that every Church varies. You may have a very pedantic Vicar. I am in the 1700's on a PR for Surrey and the lovely man has mentioned the birth dates as well as the baptismal dates, also the reputed father for baseborn children. BUT very rare in my estimation. 1600's are worse, again dependant on the Vicar, but likely as not the mother will not even be mentioned. In some PR's I have found the mother, and most NOT. If you get a marriage etc from the IGI, then parents are not usually mentioned unless it is by a submission from a church member. Transcriptions by the LDS Church are basic. I suggest that you do what most of us do this early in the piece and get the Parish records out and wade through them, adding the information to a database for your family. Another problem, and why I am square eyed........Hastings has numerous Churches and you may have to wade through them unless they mentioned which Church on the IGI. It may also be the Church of the female in the marriage (in general marriages were at the church of the female unless they were working away) and NOtT the male therefore you will collect the females family from that particular PR. I have been lucky - for example my LARKINS, went from Beds, to essex, to Surrey and stuck to St John the Baptist church in each area....Luck, or their choosing.......not sure. But I tend to head that way first. I hope I made sense. Here is the addy to the LDS library catalogue for Hastings Sussex, in case you have an LDS near you and can order the PR's. Cheers Pam http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=topicdetails&subject=430912&subject_disp=England%2C+Sussex%2C+Hastings+%2D+Church+records&columns=*,0,0 > Hello Listers > > I have found a Marriage for a Richard WENTWORTH and an > Aills (Alice) MEDOW for 29th November, 1640 in Hastings > Sussex. > > Could anyone advise whether Marriage Records in this period > include Witnesses? > > Many thanks > > Jill in Sydney > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > SUSSEX-PLUS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.484 / Virus Database: 269.12.0/961 - Release Date: 19/08/2007 > 7:27 AM > >

    2. KEMSLEY, Robert N. G.
    3. I am seeking to find an Eliza PARKER born about 1828, Penshurst, illegitimate daughter of Sophia PARKER. I was aware of Thomas PARKER Christened St. Deny's, Rotherfield, 21 Oct 1821, illegitimate son of Sophia PARKER, but until today; had no reason to suspect that Sophia may have had another illegitimate child. According to my findings; Sophia PARKER married 29 Jan 1829, Rotherfield, a John KNIGHT? If SKS could assist in unravelling this new mystery; I would very much appreciate. Kindest Regards; Robert KEMSLEY Australia

    3. Hi Marie, Can't tell you place for sure, but probably still Withyham. Found your couple in all censuses up to 1891, still in Withyham, and a possible match for Harriett in 1901. FreeBMD has the following deaths: 1895/Sep/East Grinstead/2b/83 George Neve age 82 1901/Sep/East Grinstead/2b/99 Harriet Neve age 85 (District East Grinstead covers Withyham) Let me know if you need any more info (can send census images off-list if you like, but not until next week, when I will be back home with broadband again!) 2. Phil White
    3. Hello Listers. I am back again looking for some answers, I find my THORNS in 4 main localities, starting with Shipley, then West Grinstead and last Cowfold & Henfield. The difficult part is finding all the West Grinstead lot from1780 or so through to 1820, which is where the ones who split off seem to have started Does anyone have access to the Parish Registers for West Grinstead ?? If not the I will head down to our State Capital at Concord(45 miles eac way) and order the appropriate LDS film. No one on Sussex Look Up Exchange listed Just had to ask anyway in case I am lucky again Phil White in New Hampshire USA Roots in Sussex & IOW

    3. Hi Reg, I have had a look at some maps on www.old-maps.co.uk and whilst there is no Twitten Oast there are a couple of interesting things. On the 1932 map there is a Hop Oast marked to the east of the village - I think this may be it now http://www.newick.org/gardens/Oast%20Cottage.html. However there is also an Oast House in Jackies Lane - if you look on www.royalmail.com for postcode BN8 4QX you should find it. On several maps there is also an area called Oaks in Newick Common (there is a Zion chapel there!). There are also a few biggish looking houses in Newick - unfortunately the site does not have maps beyond 1932. hth, Anne > From: reg.richardson@ntlworld.com> To: SUSSEX-PLUS@rootsweb.com> Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2007 14:40:09 +0100> Subject: [SXP] "Twitten Oast" Newick> > Hi all......> > I have a 1964 death certificate for a relative.
