    1. [SXP] STREETER DNA Project & Family Association
    2. Perry Streeter
    3. The name, STREETER, is of English origin and designates one who lives near an ancient roman road or on the main street of a village; it is almost exclusively unique to Sussex. It is a variation of Street, which comes from the Old English stroet for roman road which comes from the Latin strata, from the past participle of sternere, to strew, cover, surface. Other variations include STRETE, STREETE, STREETS, STREATER, and STREAT (Patricia Hanks and Flavia Hodges, A Dictionary of Surnames, [Oxford University Press, Oxford, 1988]). Thus, with few exceptions, all STREETERs worldwide can trace their roots to Southeast England. However, multiple families may have adopted STREETER as their surname so not all STREETERs are related. Hence the need for a STREETER DNA Project to identify all of the founding STREETER families and enable their living descendants in England and abroad to make further progress towards identifying their respective STREETER lineages. The web content for the STREETER DNA project (launched in 2003) has been thoroughly updated and the results are now organized by the places of origins within Sussex & Kent for the earliest known STREETER of each family. For more information, please see the project site at... http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~streeter/DNA/ For more general links to all-things-STREETER, please see The Streeter Family Association site at... http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~streeter/sfa/ Perry Streeter (mailto:perry@streeter.com) List Owner, STREETER@rootsweb.com Greenwood, New York USA http://www.perry.streeter.com

    1. [SXP] Maria Connor
    2. Robin Coates
    3. I have a MARIA CONNOR marrying a ROBERT MOON in 1815 in Lewes. The SMI has her age as 30+; i.e. born prior to 1785. I also have a ROBERT and MARIA MOON in the 1841 and 1861 census where MARIA'S birth would have been about 1795. I hope that these are all the same couple in spite of the difference given MARIA'S year of birth. ROBERT'S age looks about right in all three cases. Can anyone help with please. With many thanks. Robin

    1. [SXP] Seeking an Eliza PARKER b) Abt 1828, Penshurst
    2. KEMSLEY, Robert N. G.
    3. I am seeking to find an Eliza PARKER born about 1828, Penshurst, illegitimate daughter of Sophia PARKER. I was aware of Thomas PARKER Christened St. Deny's, Rotherfield, 21 Oct 1821, illegitimate son of Sophia PARKER, but until today; had no reason to suspect that Sophia may have had another illegitimate child. According to my findings; Sophia PARKER married 29 Jan 1829, Rotherfield, a John KNIGHT? If SKS could assist in unravelling this new mystery; I would very much appreciate. Kindest Regards; Robert KEMSLEY Australia

    1. [SXP] William Streeter
    2. Bob Cunning
    3. Hello from Australia. William Streeter was born at Mountfield,Sussex, on 21 June 1842, was a miner and migrated to Australia with his brother Henry on the "Lady Milton" which arrived in Sydney on 28 June 1862. William died in Brisbane on 22 Jan 1931, aged 88. William's parents were Edward and Rebecca and the 1851 census shows the family living in North Trade Workhouse, Battle, East Sussex. Rebecca was dead by this time. The 1861 census showed that Edward had married Eliza (?surname) and William was living with his sister in Folkestone. William married Margaret SHERRINGTON (1856 to 1905) at Gladstone on 23 Dec 1880. Is anyone researching this STREETER line? Cheers, Bob in Melbourne

    1. [SXP] WILSON/FORD/BROWN Winchelsea/Icklesham/Hastings
    2. Robyn Clarke
    3. Hello List, This is my first time here and I am trying to find something on my ancestors, George WILSON (b.1793 Hastings) son of Edward and wife Harriet FORD (b. Icklesham 1797). They emigrated to Australia in 1839 as farm labourers, C of E with their children. Son Edward WILSON (b. abt.1817 Hastings) also a Labourer, married a JANE BROWN, dau. of HENRY BROWN of Winchelsea. As I am housebound in Australia I am hoping there may be someone on this List able to help me identify a little more, this family. I only have the shipping records of their arrival which gives me the above information and cannot find the right period on the LDS site. Nor could I find a Brown family in Winchelsea in 1841 census. George and Harriet's first child appears to have been born in 1817, so I am also looking for their marriage some time before this in the same area. Any help very much appreciated. Robyn N.S.W. Australia
