Hi Does anyone know of Alfred John WILSON born St Albans 1895 died in Hastings in 1975, or his wife Ivy Mayence WILSON nee Bradley born St Albans 1904 died in Hastings in 1985? Alfred(my father's uncle) who lost an eye in WW1, worked as a planter in Malaya between 1920 & 1938. Alfred married Ivy in 1925 at St Albans. I have lost track of Alfred & Ivy between 1938 & their deaths. They had a daughter Pamela Dorothy born about 1927(I haven't found the birth yet) I think Pamela married Geoffrey COLES in 1949 at WORTHING. Regards Colin
Hi List I am doing some research for my daughter-in-law and have found that her Great Grandmother Charlotte Nicholson was in the Female Orphan Asylum at Beddington for the 1881 census. I think her sister Annie was also there. Charlotte was born in 1867 in Lambeth and her parents were George Nicholson and Charlotte Stepney. Charlotte was in Australia in 1892 and I am not sure if she came from the Orphanage directly. Does anyone on the list have access to the records for this Asylum and when Charlotte and Annie entered and left the Orphanage or could tell me where the records would be kept. I am currently trying to find the death's of Charlotte's parents and their whereabouts in the 1871 census. Thanks in advance Gerry in Oz

Hi Listers, Does anyone have access to the Cowfold Registers ?? I have conflicting data on the children of Peter THORNS and Harriet DEWDNEY who married in 1861 though the first child was bn in 1860 and I have that story OK. However the 7 children that followed from then through Harry in 1880 have conflicting names between the FreeBMD site and the Census. Hope someone can help clean up my problem Phil White in New Hampshire Roots in Sussex and IOW
I don't know where the records are, but this is now Carew Manor School. Try this link http://tinyurl.com/2se7du to get more information and a link to the Sutton Museums Officer, who may be able to help. Beddington (formerly Surrey) London Borough of Sutton. If you input Beddington Orphan Asylum in your browser you'll get a few sites show up. Hope this helps. Hi Sarah, In 1901 it is part of Hanover and is covered by districts 19-25 depending on the house number. The description of the district on Ancestry gives the houses covered. In 1891 it is under St Peter - try from district 20 (I must admit I haven't trawled through all of them!:-) ) hth, Anne > From: shineybomb@hotmail.com> To: sussex-plus@rootsweb.com> Date: Sun, 16 Sep 2007 13:50:26 +0000> Subject: [SXP] Islingword Road, Brighton> > > I have been trying to find Islingword Road in Brighton on the 1891 and 1901 census returns on Ancestry but although I think it should be listed under the Kemp Town area I haven't been able to find the right pages. Hi Sheila, Kelly's Directory 1911 lists the occupant as Alfred H Chayter, Queen's Lodge, Hurst Green, Etchingham. On www.old-maps.co.uk I cannot find a Queen's Lodge but there is/was a Queen's Hotel to the south of the centre of the village. On the later maps there are two houses called Lodge. I have flicked through 1901 census and cannot find a Queen's Lodge. sorry can't help any further. cheers, Anne > From: sheila@sheilapriest.wanadoo.co.uk> To: SUSSEX-PLUS@rootsweb.com> Date: Sat, 15 Sep 2007 23:08:08 +0200> Subject: [SXP] Tolley> > I am doing some research for my brother-in-law Chris Tolley whose grandfather was Henry James Tolley, known as Harry.
