    3. Dear Lists Please could I ask a favour of anyone who has time to look at the Marriage Register re Brighton St Nicholas - for the above? As you can see I have the date but I would be grateful for any other information that might be contained in the register. The exact date was March 27th 1832. I am hoping there might be details of witnesses and father's of the bride and groom etc. I am unsure how much was in the registers at this time but I think witnesses would be recorded and status ie batchelor/spinster etc., but I think it might be too early for the details of parents to be recorded, or occupations. I don't have much on Harriet (or Harriott) LAWS regarding her background or parents but later census records state she was born either in Brighton, or Northamptonshire and I am hoping it might be Brighton and this is possibly supported by her daughter, another Harriet, going to Brighton by 1860. The couple were in Dorking by later in 1832 and I am pretty sure Harriet was already expecting their first child as he was baptised in September 1832. Henry was from Dorking. Any help or suggestions will be gratefully received. Helen Shipley Helen

    2. Victoria Read
    3. Hello List I am looking for my Read ancestors I have Charles Read born c1821 born Chichester son of George and Jane (nee ?Osgood- born Wiltshire). Jane appears on the 1841 census in Chichester St Pancras area. The name is spelt Reid. George is missing but Jane is there with daughters Rebecca and Ellen and Charles. I can find no trace of George the father). Jane is a beer seller (what exactly is a beer seller if anyone would be so kind to tell me). 1842 Charles marries Harriett and on the marriage cert - George is named as father and there is a signature of a George Read. Rebecca is a witness. 1851 census - Jane and Rebecca are living in the East Gate area of Chichester - beer sellers. Jane states that she is a widow. (Rebecca never marries and I have not traced the other daughter Ellen as yet). I have found a death of George Reed dec 1847 Chichester but if this is so where is he on the 1841 census. Jane Read dies in Dec 1854 Chichester. Charles and his family live in the Sub Deanery area of Chichester and then move to Portsea around 1880's. By 1901 Harriett Read is living with her son Thomas in West Dean where Thomas is a gamekeeper on the West Dean Estate. The only death I can find for a Harriett Read is East Grinstead age 78 Sept 1902. I am intending on ordering the certs for positive identification. I was wondering if anyone had any links to this family? Would West Dean come under the East Grinstead area for registering deaths or would I assume that the family moved towards there? And where was George on the 1841 census? Any help or pointers would be appreciated. Thanks

    3. Here is another IGI Identification format..... Jenny IGI BATCH NO. INFORMATION Batch numbers beginning with A, L, M17, M18,T0, T90, 69409- indicate LDS Temple records and have limited access. Batch numbers beginning with C, E, J, K, M (except M17 and M18), P, T5, 725, 744, 745, 754- indicate extracted birth, christening or marriage record. E- Batches: Replace the "E" with an " M" and find the "M-" batch number in the IGI Batch Number Index. T-5-Batches: Just above the IGI entry with a "T-5-" batch number, you will find a nearly identical IGI entry with a different batch number. Use that batch number to find the source. 725-, 745-, and 754- Batches: These batches are extracted indexes, usually with no more information. Names may be listed alphabetically ...Surnames A - O are on film 543896. P - Z are on film 543897." Batch numbers beginning with F, T96, T998, T9990, and all digit numbers such as 8434961 [except beginning with 725-, 744-, 745-, 754- as above] are forms submitted to the Ancestral File by individuals. They may be a Family Group Record, an Individual Entry or Marriage Entry. The microfilms can be ordered and photocopies can be made. Submitters' names and addresses may be outdated. F- Batches: Check the forms to understand the data. Some information is estimated or added and may be different from what you expect. T96- Batches: This is a correction to an existing record.

The first is my 3xgt grandparents. The only details that I know is that the groom¹s name was PARSONS and the bride was Maria. She was born about 1789 in Eastbourne or Westham and died in 1863 in Brighton. Her daughter, also Maria, married Thomas MOCKFORD, probably in Newhaven in 1843. The second is John WHITE who was born in 1813 in Lyminster, West Sussex. By 1841 he was married to Mary Ann ??? and they were living in Portsea, Hants. She gave her birthplace as Preston, Sussex in the censuses (possibly East Preston). I would be interested to contact anyone connected to either of these families. 1. Re: [SXP] Odd IGI batch number
    2. pamhillier
    3. Hi Jack Ok I have had a look at these .......via the source number. The IGI is a wonderful resource, BUT is made up of films that are 1. Transcriptions from the PR's etc - original transcriptions by the LDS 2. LDS member donations as a part of their religion per ce Lds memebers are required as a part of their religion to trace their family history and this one that you mention...................."seems" to be a family history (temple ready). Like most family historians there are good ones and bad ones......so take these as you find them as with anything that is done by others. No offence meant here........ By checking the source notes (title details), you can see that they are donated by members of the church. A source number should mention the PR is transcribed. If I cannot contact the providor of the information I tend to re-check the information given, purely because you can literally "bark up the wrong tree" and people are human and do make mistakes. MY advice.......... Use the IGI as a (great) guideline BUT get the PR's out yourself, cross referencing with what you KNOW and census data, certs etc when applicable. Cheers Pam from Adelaide Australia > Perhaps someone can help with this. Batch #I036273 appears to be PRs from > Henfield but has no indication as to source material. 3. Hi Pam, Jack and all I have found a few odd "I" batches and have found them to be fairly new data extracted from PRs My particular "I" batch appeared a couple of years ago for 1807 of St Marys Lambeth, I asked the LDS where it had come from and was told it was a late extracted batch from the Parish Registers that had not been extracted before I proved this by obtaining a copy of the page where my g.g.g.grandparents marriage was found Jack, perhaps you might ask the LDS as its their data on there, I have always found them very helpful Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Jack > Ok I have had a look at these .......via the source number. > The IGI is a wonderful resource, BUT is made up of films that are > 1.
