    3. I have a relative who was born in Horsham in 1839, and who died the following year on 22 March 1840 also in Horsham. I have been unable to find the baptisms of little Thomas Walter ADAMTHWAITE, or two of his siblings also born in Horsham. Does anyone have an idea whether he would be interred in a churchyard or a cemetery? The only clues I can give are that the family were not short of money, and that they came from a family which included an awful lot of vicars (which makes the lack of baptism records a bit odd, I thought). Thomas's parents did not come from the area, nor did they marry and die there. Any advice very gratefully received, though at present I am unable to visit any record offices. Thank you in advance. Margaret

    3. Hi Betty, Assuming that these two places are close geographically I think you may be looking for Wartling and Herstmonceux. If you use a search engine for either of these names you should come up with plenty of hits. These may be of particular interest http://www.cowbeech.force9.co.uk/HWRG.htm or http://www.family-history.org.uk/ There is also GenUKI http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/SSX/ You haven't mentioned any dates but if you are after census info etc there is always Ancestry or IGI. hth, Anne > From: Elizwil827@aol.com> Date: Thu, 13 Dec 2007 14:19:39 -0500> To: sussex-plus@rootsweb.com> Subject: [SXP] Wartling and Hautmonceux> > I am interested in researching these two places for information on my > ancestors James Dawe (Wartling) and his wife Sarah (Hautmonceux). 3. Hi Judy, According to FreeBMD a George MILLAM and a Miriam CATT both married in the same Quarter ( 4th Qtr.1867) in the Battle Registration District. The reference for both is Vol.2b Page 94. At first I could not find a marriage for a MILLHAM or MILHAM to a Miriam, so I looked for any Miriam's born in the Beckley Registration District (which is Rye) between 1843 and 1845. I found Miriam CATT born 1st Qtr.1844 Rye District, and also a Miriam LEAVER born 3rd Qtr.1844. I then searched for possible marriages for them both...........and hit the jackpot. I had not previously tried to find a MILLAM, so it just goes to show that every possible spelling must be applied. Of course, this does not guarantee they married each other, but I should think it's a very strong possibility. A George MILHAM died in Rye District in 1st Qtr.1871 (bet.Jan & March) aged 25. Which of course further supports the possibility, and explains why he wasn't on the 1871 census. Happy hunting regards, Sandra ----- Original Message ----- From: "John & Judy" <johnbb@clear.net.nz> To: "List Sussex" <SUSSEX-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 13, 2007 9:22 AM Subject: [SXP] Look up 1871 Census > Dear Listers > > Could SKS please do a look up in the 1871 Census for a Miriam Millham, b > abt 1844 in Beckley, Sussex. 3. Thanks Heather, I was wondering why Emsworth could not be found in the online 1911 directory for Sussex, then I realised it was close to Hampshire border, and there was the village in the corresponding Hampshire one. Fortunately I found later the deaths of Malcolm in Thanet (Kent) and John in Lewisham (London) in the 1883-2005 index, so perhaps one of the informants a grandson of Henry and Lilly may eventually fill in the gaps. cheers Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "Heather Brooks" <heather.brooks@virgin.net> To: "bob campbell" <rcampbell3@optusnet.com.au>; <SUSSEX-PLUS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 13, 2007 8:19 AM Subject: Re: [SXP] Henry STACY WW1 veteran in Westbourne Hi, the parish registers of Westbourne have been transcribed and are on the open shelves at West Sussex Record Office, unfortunately the record office is closed for stocktaking until the 17th of December. Henry STACY's record shows he was a valet/servant at Emsworth Lodge, Stanstead Park, Emsworth, West Sussex before and his family resident there at least during WW1. during this time he had two children by his wife Lilly Ann (nee' SHEARSMITH) Malcolm Richard STACY in 1915 (Norwich) and John Albert STACY in 1918. (Westbourne) Henry re-enlisted at Brighton in 1916 and stated on his attestation he was previously with the Sussex Yeomanry Reserve Regiment. Anyone on list have these STACY'S in their tree? Has anyone on list have ancestor's also who were also a member of the Sussex Yeomanry Reserve Regiment.? Have any registers been transcribed for Westbourne or Emsworth which may have this family listed? cheers Bob in Brisbane

I have recently obtained a baptism record for my gt gt grandfather Date of Baptism(d/m/y) 12/04/1818 Name John Ebenezer ADAMS son or dau. s Date born 22/01/1818 Father's Name John ADAMS Mother's Name Ann ADAMS Occupation - Abode Framlingfield Parish Jireh Jireh Notes - The Abode I believe to be Framfield, but I found the Jireh reference interesting. John E.'s father (John ADAMS) is buried at the old Dicker Chapel, now called Golden Cross Chapel, and therefore I believe there to be a strong independent streak through the family. Particularly as John's other children included a Jabez, and Isaac, and a Caleb. Indeed Isaac's children included a Calvin and a Caleb Luther. It would appear that my ADAMS might have been Calvinists, as there seems to be a strong link with Jireh Chapels and Calvinism. I checked around and the nearest Jireh Chapel to Framfield appears to be one in Lewes. I have for many years tried to find the burial place or record for John Ebenezer (who died 27/01/1867), and hoped that the Jireh clue might help. Any advice gladly welcomed. Regards, Richard.

    3. Martin, You don't say quite what you need, so hard for me to be specific. In that case I suggest you get his place of birth 1851 and try and locate him in the 1841. You dont say that you found him or not in the 1841. He may be with parents or relatives. Back track and collect the family which sometimes helps to tie things together. Sisters and brothers, parents may be living with them in their dotage and you may gain more info. Also if place of birth tallies throughout - get the Parish registers out for the area in Surrey you require. . Have you done searches of the IGI.....? Parent searches? There are a lot of avenues to gain more information. www.historicaldirectories.org - directories online. I usually go to the Parish records once I have established the family by other various means census/igi. If you are just posting your names in the hope of a contact. I suggest you head your query as such. Posting to the eng-Surrey list might be of value. Also websites such as www.rootschat.com, genesreunited etc may glean information and contacts.
