    1. [SXP] Address: Bourne Walk, Hastings - in 1910
    2. Debbie Jesson
    3. Greetings, I wondered if someone could help with finding an address in Hastings? On a death certificate, I have the address of 8b Bourne Walk, Hastings. I looked on the present day map and couldn't locate it. Is it still there I am working on my Granny's lost family....'TUBBS' ...that lived in St.Leonards and Hastings up to that point , but seemed to have disappeared from then on. The 3 kids ( and recently found out that there were more) were sent to an orphanage and eventually came to Canada. Granny would never speak of her time in the home and destroyed all records. I have searched from that point forward for deaths of her parents, to no avail. I even had the Sussex group to hunt for a grave site...but none showed up. The family is as follows: ALBERT E. TUBBS - father - b. 1877 CHARLOTTE LAVINIA TUBBS (no marriage record, so may be under her maiden name of ROSE) -b. 1875 REGINALD TUBBS -b. 1903 ALICE TUBBS - b. 1906 WILLIAM TUBBS - b. 1910 My interest in finding the address is, that it might be a worthwhile investment to order the 1911 census. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. Regards, Deborah

    1. [SXP] Question of Nazareth House, Bexhill
    2. Debbie Jesson
    3. Greetings, I just wondered if anyone knew of Nazareth House in Bexhill? I just found out that this may be the orphanage that my Granny was in in the years between 1910 - 1920. Either that or Malmsbury House. She would never speak of her experience there and destroyed any records of her life before coming to Canada at age 16. Would there be any records still around that would show if she was in their care within those years? Thanks for any help! Regards, Deborah Happy New Year!

    3. Hi John I worked out that Portsmouth would be a lot closer and probably where Heather needed to research, but couldn't find any reference to Kingston in Hamps. Takes a local to know rather than an ex-pat Kentish gal in Oz. Grin ! I am sure Heather now knows which direction to head at the very least. Happy New year to all and happy hunting Heather. 3. I have a sampler worked by Mary WHIFFIN aged 12 in 1759. It was given to my mother by her aunt Edith PAYNE of Uckfield. I've always wondered if there was a family connection but haven't managed to find one yet. Some family names are PAYNE (Shoosmith, Lambert, Stace), and ELPHICK (Smith, Johnson, Wratten) All east Sussex.. IGI would indicate a possible Kent connection. Are there any Whiffin researchers with ideas? Paula

    3. I would be interested to interact with anyone who has ANNIE SKINNER who married ALBERT E CHAPMAN 1920, Steyning, Brighton in their family line. Annie Chapmans name was on the death certificate for HORACE SKINNER as being the informant and daughter. I have been looking for their children and deaths. Not to be confused with another Annie Skinner born the same year who married Frederick Lincer 1918 Steyning Brighton. I do have some childrens names for Annie and Albert but would like verification if possible. Kind regards. I am looking for details on William Edward Hope Henson who was born in July 1907 in Brighton. Mother Rosetta Green; father William Henson. 3. Hi Heather, Well I am not exactly doing nothing as my house looks like a bombs hit it after Xmas. BUT I am ambidexrous in this department and bounce around doing computer and housework.....I dont get bored that way. Grin ! I have not tried the censuses yet, presuming that you had done that to death under all spellings. But when I googled various ways for Kingston Lunatic Asylum etc etc etc Ontario, Canada and Kingston Jamaica come up. Limiting it to Lunatic asylums there is one in Kingston Road, Teddington Middlesex, and a few others which seem to be Surrey. It may have been known as the Kingston Asylum because of where it was situated. I tried Parloc to see how far itchinor was from teddington, but Itchenor does not come up as a Parish per ce. This addy is a list of asylums. http://www.mdx.ac.uk/WWW/STUDY/4_13_TA.htm Have a gander for yourself. However, Portsmouth according to Multimap, is much much closer. Teddington to Itchenor is well over 50 miles away. Strange!!!!!!! Might pay to post to the Portsmouth list. (hampshire) Obviously she was in the Asylum hence Robert stating married in census but she is never to be found. That is very sad, all those years in an asylum. I hope you find her, poor lady. I shall do some more searching and shall email the list if I find anything. 3. Heather & Pam The lunatic asylum at Kingston Road, Teddington, was called Normansfield Asylum , later Hospital, and has recently been redeveloped into luxury apartments and houses. 2. Heather Brooks
    3. Hi, as you are all sitting around doing nothing I thought you could all do with a little puzzle to keep your brains active! Sarah Carpenter was born abt 1834 at Birdham, near Chichester, West Sussex. In 1852 she married Robert William Rodgers/Rogers, mariner, born abt 1826 in Ireland. She is with her family at West Itchenor (next to Birdham) in the 1861 and 1871 census, and had 7 children. In the 1881 census Robert is working in near by Selsey and is recorded as married. With him is his brother Richard (who is in the census twice, he is with his wife at Itchenor as well!) In the 1891 census at Itchenor Robert is with various family members and is again down as married, he died in the June of that year and is buried at Itchenor church. I then have a burial on June 2nd 1915 at Itchenor of a Sarah Rogers, buried aged 85yrs old from Kingston Lunatic Asylum. In the free BMD June Qtr 1915 at Portsmouth a death of a Sarah Rogers aged 80yrs old. I know there is a Kingston in Portsmouth and I know of the prison there, but have not found a asylum. I don't think its Kingston in Surrey. I have tried, and failed to find this poor lady in the 1881/1891 and 1901 censuses with out any luck. Regards, Heather Brooks

    1. [SXP] HETZER surname (possibly in and around Worthing)...
    2. David Allan
    3. This is a bit of a stab in the dark, but someone has informed me that there might be a cluster of people with the HETZER surname living in Sussex, maybe in and around the area of Worthing. My great grandmother was Phoebe Sophia HETZER and it is thought that these Sussex HETZER's may have a common ancestry with my great grandmother Phoebe. I'm just wondering whether anyone has come across this surname during the course of their research or whether any HETZER's are kicking about in this neck of the woods. Any help would be very greatly appreciated... David Allan.
