    1. [SXP] NORTHEAST surname search.
    2. eileen
    3. I have just found a cousin I knew very little about through the internet and I would dearly love to get further back in my Northeast surname search. I have recently been down to Brighton where I was born and went to seek out my Grandparents old Tavern in the Lanes where I lived from 1932 till 1935. The Model House Tavern, Meeting House Lane. It is now a lovely antique shop and the lady proprietess was very interested in its history and said she would try and look it up now. So when I returned I did the same and found an old Pubs site in which it was mentioned and my cousin had contributed a little bit. I contacted the website owner and asked for my details to be passed on to him and we have been catching up on the past. He is 75 and I am 78. My parents parted when I was a baby so I never really knew him. Its great. I have done loads of research and have a vast family tree but the Northeast line stops at 1737 in Chichester and I cant get back further. Jeremiah Northeast married in 1737 and died in 1763 and I have 5 children on the tree. I have a feeling they didnt get out of Sussex much but am curious as to where the name originated. I am tempted to join Ancestry again and wonder if this is the best option. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. sincerely Eileen (nee Northeast) http://www.epfranchi.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/page1.htm

    3. Does anybody know about public transportation in East Sussex? Or where I might find out? Barbara Jo Brothers, U.S.A. Hi Barbara, Just googled "Public Transport East Sussex" and found this web-site: http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/roadsandtransport/public/default.htm Which is managed by the local council and has links to providers of Public Transport. Burwash does not appear to have its own railway station - and trains tend to go from Coast to London or along the coast. Regards & hope you have a good trip. Kevin (a Sussex Lad born & Bred), Nothing wrong with side of the road we drive on, its the rest of the world that's got it wrong :-).

    3. Hi Dave The records you want to access , both street directories and electoral registers, can be found at the Brighton Local History Centre http://www.brighton-hove-rpml.org.uk/MUSEUMS/BRIGHTONHISTORYCENTRE/Pages/home.aspx They have a collection of both going back before 1904. At that time there were Kelly's and/or rival directories showing residential householders in the Brighton area. Geographically Brighton is in East Sussex. 3. Hi Dave You said you have the 1901 for that address (CAREYs) look at the top of the page it will tell you the Ecclesiastical Parish they were in For electoral rolls, google the library in the Preston area , if they don't have them they should know who does Some will want payment but some will check a one of address Note : they are by address not by name There used to be a web site for checking library holdings such as electoral rolls http://www.familia.org.uk/ But it does not seem to want to load so not sure if it still works or not Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) PS you may think there is some way of tracking down families apart from the census, that does not mean anything actually exists > HI... > I'm still persuing the family who resided at #9 Hythe Road, Preston, Sussex in 1904. 3. The houses in Hythe Road are still standing and were built from the late 1890s onwards. The road next to Hythe is Sandgate Road which has very similar houses. Sandgate Road has its own Oral History website which might be of interest. http://www.communityarchives.org.uk/page_id__941_path__0p2p12p32p.aspx Sorry I don't have the sort of directory you are looking for though.
