'Twas ever thus! Recently here in France there was uproar about a wealthy farmer in his around 70 who married a woman in her 30s who claims to be an estate agent. She has a winning smile and generous figure and he looks, honestly! like Worzel Gummidge (and I am about the same age age as he!) Apparently they were booed after the wedding, which I think is mean. Just a small follow up I added an extra h on he forename it was registered as Susanna On the service record there was also note of two children to the couple Dorothy Elizabeth 9 Aug 1910 Walter John 25th Jan 1913 You said :- "BMD has Nellie Dunkley but she is married Weatherley" The GRO index has a maximum of two couples to a page at that time, if you notice there are three individuals on the page result for Oliver Walter HENSON Marriages Dec 1909 DUNKLEY Nellie Godstone 2a 411 HENSON Oliver Walter Godstone 2a 411 WEATHERLEY William Henry Godstone 2a 411 But if you check further you will find the GRO page for Oliver Walter HENSON actually states 2a *417* I have sent a correction to Freebmd Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > >> I"m trying to find out who Oliver Walter Henson married in 1909 in Godstone, Surrey. BMD has >> Nellie Dunkley but she is married Weatherley. Any information is appreciated. >

Can anyone with an interest in the WESTON family of Mayfield and the surrounding area, help me find the identity of the WESTONs mentioned below and what their connection could have been with my PAGE family of Mayfield, please? I have the following facts: 1. The Mayfield Marriage Register shows John PAGE a bachelor and Elizabeth COLLINS a spinster, both of Mayfield, were married on 3 May 1812, and the witnesses were Richard PARRIS and William WESTON. 2. The Mayfield Marriage Register shows Ann PAGE a spinster and Richard Jarvis FREY bachelor were married on 27 December 1813, anbd the witnesses were Samuel DUPLOCK and (what looks like) M. WESTON. 3. The Mayfield Marriage Register shows Maria Ann PAGE a widow married Leonard STILES a bachelor, at Mayfield on 12 December 1829, and the witnesses were ? WESTON (I cannot decipher the initial) and John CLARKE. 4. The Death Certificate of Eden (Edith) PAGE 39 years, wife of William PAGE, who died on 13 November 1847 at Mayfield shows the Informant was Mary FENNER, present at the death. Mary FENNER was Mary WESTON before her marriage to Charles FENNER on 1 May 1831 at Mayfield. In the 1841 Census they were living next door to Eden and John PAGE at Wellbrook, Mayfield and in the 1851 Census next door to John PAGE. Thanks for any help and/or suggestions Chris Page

Dear Listers, I am new to this list and wonder if there is someone who may be able to help me. I am trying to find some connection with my grt grandfather's brother William Steel GOWLING emigrated to South Australia sometime after 1869. My grt grandfather emigrated to S A in 1854 aboard the 'HYDERABAD' with his Uncle, Aunt and family. William is listed as purchasing property in South Australia 13/02/1871. He may have arrived here in about 1870 accompanying his blind sister Margaret Steel GOWLING but there was a fire in the records office which housed shipping registers and the records for1869 - 1872 were lost unfortunately. William Steel GOWLING was Chr 11/08/1844 in Penrith CUM and he married Caroline TEAGUE 08/07/1868 St Lewes Sussex. They had at least 2 children John William GOWLING B 1876 2b pge 158 Lewes and Marion GOWLING B 1871 Vol 2b pge 111 Uckfield Sussex. Both Caroline and William GOWLING worked in service at Maresfield / Uckfield Sussex around 1868. In 1871 Census Caroline Gowling is living with her parents Caroline and William TEAGUE there is no mention of her child John William GOWLING - (did he die) or Marion GOWLING obviously she was born the latter part of 1871. In 1881 Census Marion GOWLING is listed as living with her grandmother Caroline TEAGUE living at Ridgewood, Uckfield - Caroline snr is listed as Head and widow aged 60 yrs. There is no listing of Caroline GOWLING with her but Marion GOWLING gr dau 9 born Uckfield Sussex is. Possibly Caroline GOWLING is working somewhere else? William Steel GOWLING continued living in South Australia until his death in 1929. He married Emma Caroline GOWNE in 1881 but they had no children. He died a widower. I have always been intrigued to know if William left his wife and young family behind in England never to see them again? What happened to Caroline GOWLING her son John William and daughter Marion GOWLING. I have not been able to find out anything else of this family and would love to be able to find out if there are any descendants from this family. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this lengthy request and look forward to your replies. Warmest regards Bev R

Heather this upsets the applecart somewhat Firstly forget the Rosina death I posted previously, she would be about 10 or 11 when the first son was born so clearly not her, I should have noticed that before In 1891 the Robert below has a wife Annie b1867 Chatham So either its the wrong family (but there do not appear to be any others) or your suggested Rosina is incorrect, or Robert remarried to an Annie after the untimely death of Rosina So it is even more important that you check out the Baptisms to see who the parents are and see if you can find a marriage or more for Robert (or buy the birth cert of course :-) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > For other listers information and to save duplication of effort > > Heather posted the likely parents of Alfred b1894 as Robert & Rosina SMITH > > This looks to be a good possibility for Alfred and family in 1901 > > Name: Alfred Smith > Age: 7 > Estimated Birth Year: abt 1894 > Relation: Son > Father's Name: Robert Smith > Gender: Male > Where born: Chatham, Kent, England > Civil parish: Chatham > Ecclesiastical parish: Chatham St John > Town: Chatham > County/Island: Kent > Country: England > Registration district: Medway > Sub-registration district: Rochester and Chatham > ED, institution, or vessel: 40 > Neighbors: View others on page > Household schedule number: 50 > Piece: 729 > Folio: 62 > Page Number: 8 > Household Members: > Name Age > Robert Smith widower 35 Carpenter > Robert Smith 14 > George Smith 13 > John Smith 11 > Alfred Smith 7 > Rose Smith 16 > (all born Chatham Kent) > > RG13; Piece: 729; Folio: 62; Page: 8. > > This may be Roberts widows death registration > > Name: Rosina Alice Smith > Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876 > Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1899 > Age at Death: 23 > Registration district: Sheppey > Inferred County: Kent > Volume: 2a > Page: 635 > > Many Kent Parish Registers are available to you to search (they are not indexed) here > http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/ > > It may be worth a trawl through to see what you find > > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
For other listers information and to save duplication of effort Heather posted the likely parents of Alfred b1894 as Robert & Rosina SMITH This looks to be a good possibility for Alfred and family in 1901 Name: Alfred Smith Age: 7 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1894 Relation: Son Father's Name: Robert Smith Gender: Male Where born: Chatham, Kent, England Civil parish: Chatham Ecclesiastical parish: Chatham St John Town: Chatham County/Island: Kent Country: England Registration district: Medway Sub-registration district: Rochester and Chatham ED, institution, or vessel: 40 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 50 Piece: 729 Folio: 62 Page Number: 8 Household Members: Name Age Robert Smith widower 35 Carpenter Robert Smith 14 George Smith 13 John Smith 11 Alfred Smith 7 Rose Smith 16 (all born Chatham Kent) RG13; Piece: 729; Folio: 62; Page: 8. Hi Listers - Way back in 2007 a 'Beryl and Barry' (NZ) made contact with me regarding a Mary Boniface (Sussex)(my 3xgreat grandmother. Having delved further into my tree would like to re-kindle communication with them, have tried but they have obviously changed their e-mail address. Can anyone help please? Thanks Julie Parker
Hi Ted, Goldstone Road is around the corner from where my father lives, I know of a cemetery nearby, perhaps I could take a look for you next time I'm there but most people could tell you that gravestones have deteriotated over a period of time so no guarantees.
