    2. Nivard Ovington
    3. Hi Bruce For records for those who served after 1920 they are still with the M.O.D. Details here http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html Basically you need to prove the man has passed away and pay the fee of £30 , it can take a little while to come through the system Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) >I would like to find out about my grandfathers (Frank Deacon, born 21 May 1901 East Grinstead, >Sussex) military service. Unfortunately I only have the hard copies, a computer malfunction remove the actual files. I regret that do not know the identities of these kind people, and wondered if the were still active, and would contact me. Thank you Rex

    3. Can anyone please tell me whether the Marriage Certificate of a Widower who is getting married for a 2nd time gives the name of his deceased wife. I am trying to find out who the mother of a child is. All I know is that John Fuller married a Jane Wickham in 1850 and he was a widower at the time. His daughter Ann was supposedly born in 1842 in Brightling but I cannot find a birth registration for her, which makes me wonder if her birth was not registered, as a lot of them went unregistered. Any information kindly accepted. Regards Judy Berntsen New Zealand

    1. Re: [SXP] Overseas deaths available for free.
    2. Nivard Ovington
    3. Hi Valerie The overseas indexes that are available for free on www.familyrelatives.com are just that , free You do not need to subscribe but do need to register (no CC details are required to do so) The index is only an index no matter where you find it, to view the details of a certificate you would need to buy it just as you would if using such as freebmd Other records on the site are pay per view or subscription I don't know what the original enquiry was as the subject line does not appear in the archives, but is it was for WW1 (which your post suggests) I posted earlier that War death certs are sparse in information More often it records cause of death as died of wounds, died of disease or similar and place of death as France & Flanders or similar The War deaths index does not state where the death occurred, you may have misread the Regiment abbreviation Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > "I think www.familyrelatives.com has the Overseas deaths available for > free." > > Thanks for the link to the overseas death. 3. Hi Judy I see you have had a couple of replies to the list and perhaps more offlist? But have not seen any that answers the original question, would a marriage certificate record the name of a previous wife? The simple answer is no For details of what is on a certificate, this may be useful http://www.dixons.clara.co.uk/Certificates/indexbd.htm Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Can anyone please tell me whether the Marriage Certificate of a Widower who > is getting married for a 2nd time gives the name of his deceased wife. The first wife's name would not be given. I was given this site which is very helpful for saying what is on certificates. It seems it changes from time to time. http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/indexbd.htm Have you tried the local register office? Sometimes they are there but not in the GRO index. 3. Hi All, thanks for the usual quick responses to questions. I may have to accept that that I entered the wrong date in the GRO request for December instead of March even after ordering certificates many times before. I will take Mary's suggestion and this time ask for Fanny's marriage certificate instead. Unfortunately the spelling Tusler/Tussler changes within the same family and across different census years so it's always challenging as other branches have the same spelling problems adding to the complexity. My end result on this particular query is to confirm which George Tusler was KIA in 1916 in Flanders, my grand Uncle b1885 or my 1st cousin 2x removed b1885. Separate question but can you order WW1 death certificates? 3. Hi again I suspected your aim might be to find the one who passed away in 1916 UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 about George Tusler Name: George Tusler Birth Place: Horsham, Sussex Death Date: 15 Sep 1916 Death Location: France & Flanders Enlistment Location: Horsham Rank: L/Corporal Regiment: Grenadier Guards Battalion: 2nd Battalion Number: 22248 Type of Casualty: Killed in action Theatre of War: Western European Theatre Yes you can order a death cert in the normal way but you may not learn anything new, most will have died of wounds or similar and place of death as France & Flanders or similar As he was with the Guards whose service records are held separately I would suggest making contact with them and see if they can help Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi All, thanks for the usual quick responses to questions. The reference for them is different from the regular ones. I think www.familyrelatives.com has the Overseas deaths available for free. If not, FindMyPast has them. I'm not sure about Ancestry or TheGenealogist. War Death certificates don't give a lot of information. It's usually only "war injuries" or similar wording. Connie in London
