James Surrency can be found in the 1850 Tattnall Census. He is apparently widowed with his eldest son, John M. Surrency living with him. James's second wife, Mary McClellan has died and their young children are most probably living with in-laws. John M. is their half-brother by an earlier marriage. In the 1860 Tattnall Census James's children by his second marriage have rejoined him. That is where you see Samuel S. Surrency for the first time. Your Samuel Surrency son of Samuel D. and Elizabeth Copeland Surrency who was born 19 Sep 1829 and died in childhood. If you look at the 1830 and 1840 Census, Samuel's age range is present in 1830 and not in 1840. He died between 1830 and 1840. Everyone mixes up James's Samuel S. Surrency or Allen Powell and Wealthy Roberson Surrency with him. I hope this helps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
