    3. Hi.... You were correct on the first Jacob..he was the son of Samuel D. Surrency the II and Elizabeth Stafford. The second Jacob was indeed Samuel D. the III's son.....so you were correct.... 3. Scott, I'm sure the Allen Surrency you mentioned is a relative to the James Allen I talked about in a previous message. From what the family has told me, the older James Allen is buried in Hawthorne. One of these days I'm going to get down to the cemetery to see if I can find his tombstone. I haven't specifically seen the name George Washington Surrency so I'm tossing this email to the group in case anyone else might know. I have myself recently discovered for my wife's family that one of their family friends was actually a Surrency relation. It was from the same group down there around Plant City I believe that person descended from Benjamin Franklin Surrency, another descendant of Samuel III. That's one of the things I find fasinating about the Surrency line, it seems that all connect back to the same group. I haven't found this to be true in any of the many other families I'm researching. I encourage everyone that has joined the list recently to post whatever connection they have to the Surrency family and any relevant information that may have recently discovered that helps put the puzzle pieces together. 3. MessageSkeet, I first began my research by speaking with my wife's still living great-grandmother, a daughter of Mary Sybil Surrency. She told me that her mother's father was Allen Surrency and was a postmaster. I found out much more when I received the book Yesterday's Reflections by Jan Johannes. "In the late 1860's...J. Allen Surrency, moved to Florida from Tattnall County, Georgia, with his widowed mother and five brothers and sisters. By 1885 Allen had married Sarah Bezorah (sic) (Bell) Gay from Trader's Hill, and was settled at Dutton. Surrency, a popular man with railroad personnel, farmed and cut wood for the trains as a livelihood...in 1898, Allen Surrency was appointed...postmaster. As the postmaster he took the liberty of renaming the little hamlet after his ten-year-old daugther, Verdie." I later traced Allen and his family in the census and discovered in 1880 he lived in Charlton Co., GA with his wife listed as Belle Z., his mother Hester, his sister Nancy and her husband, and his sister Wealthy. This census listed J. Allen's name as "James," his age shown 30. In the 1860 Census, I found James Surrency, age 63 with wife Hester in Tattnall County. One of their children is Allen, age 10. I'm not sure if this 63 year old James is Allen's father. I'm also not sure where this older James fits. I believe he may be one of Samuel D. Surrency II's sons. Possibly William James? Dan ----- Original Message ----- From: Skeet Surrency To: 'Dan Cahill' Sent: Saturday, July 06, 2002 11:12 AM Subject: RE: New Surrency Mailing List I did subscribe to the mailing list. Thanks for setting it up. Interestingly, I'm not certain I have your wife's branch of the tree. I do have a couple of J A Surrency's, but not a J Allen. And, of course, I don't have a Mary Sybil Surrency either. Can you tell me more about them? Her Great-great-grandmother was Mary Sybil Surrency, daughter of J. Allen Surrency of Nassau County, FL. I will post more information once the list gets rolling. Dan Cahill

    3. Stephanie, You might want to pose this again after a few more members join. I looked around for information on your Charlotte and it looks like she was the second daughter of Jacob and Zilphia Surrency born 1837. Jacob was the last child of Samuel D. Surrency II. I found a 1850 census record, it was the last page of Ware County District 89 on Ancestry.com. It shows Charlotte, age 13. Hope this helps!
