In 1880 they appear in the Tattnall Co census, Samuel is 48, farming, Susan is 30 and keeping house, daughter Mary is 3. In 1900 Susan Love Surrency is a widow and living with her father, G.M. Hi, I am searching for any help in my research concerning Henry Clay Surrency, who was the son of Jacob and Zilphia Douglas Surrency... As I am researching....I am seeing some discrepancies or something....I have found Henry Surrency in the census from 1870-1910 married to one woman and that was Hannah Missouri Douglas...the 1910 census states that were married for 42 yrs....I do not see where he was married to another woman named Francine Shaw Douglas, unless he married her before 1869 when married Hannah ..or after Hannah passed in 1911...I found info that states he had two children named Albert Benjamin Serinson Surrency (1867)and John Serinson Surrency (1869)....but I have not seen them in the census with Henry.... If there is anyone who is researching this line, I would appreciate any help that you can give.... And thank you for the help that anyone can provide.... Stephanie Grohol
Stephanie, Henry Clay Surrency, C.S.A. (11/16/1845 - 12/1/1920) was married twice and had issue by three women; i.e., Francine Shaw (m c 1866) [2 and possibly 3 children], Hannah Missouri Douglass (m 9/2/1969) [12 children] and Hannah’s sister, Victoria Douglass (not married) [2 children]. A very complete biographical sketch for Henry Clay Surrency is available in Huxford’s "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia", Volume #9 (pg. #426). Note: Many of your inquiries are answered in the "PofWGA" volumes. A chapter concerning Henry and his families (which includes pictures and a newspaper article concerning his death - he was killed by a train) is available in "The Douglass Genealogy", by Mary Lois (Douglas) Forrester. Alicia, I too have a lot of Surrency information. Do you have the parents of Newton David Surrency and Estelle Surrency listed as Allen Hansford Surrency (1841 - 1917) and America Caroline Boothe (1853 - 1904)? Who were the children of Estelle Surrency, besides your ancestor, Verdie V. Walker? Do you know of the parents of Porter Walker? Rob Noles Robert B.
