    3. I met Allen back in the 70's and we exchanged a lot of family information.  I was so sorry to learn later that he had passed away at such an early age.  I understand his wife later married a Methodist minister.  I would assume she is your grandmother.  Has she not provided you with family information?  I think most of his family lived in the Gainesville area, including some sisters. Contact me directly at slpeelerjr@yahoo.com. Scott L. Author: Truckindust Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.surrency/55.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This is in reference to the Samuel Darlington Surrency of Jesup City Cemetery. My great great grandmother was Julia Adelaide Fleming (1st marriage)Smith (2nd marriage) Surrency, wife of Samuel D. Surrency, the attorney mentioned above. He was the son of Allen P. and Wealtha Surrency you refer to. He did NOT have any children. Julia had several children by Robert James Smith, from whom I am descended, but together they had no children. He is indeed buried at Jesup City Cemetery not at Bonaventure in Savannah, Ga. In a later census,1910, you find Julia living as a widow with her daughter and son-in-law Constance and Robert along with a young woman named Rosa Surrency but she isn't their daughter but listed as a "servant". I believe her to be a cousin's daugher of Samuel's who had been working with them in their household previously. He died a year before and rosa may have been trying to decide where to go. Author: durance Surnames: Surrency/McClellan/Copeland/Roberson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.surrency/59.1.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, I'll try to help you. James Surrency can be found in the 1850 Tattnall Census. He is apparently widowed with his eldest son, John M. Surrency living with him. James's second wife, Mary McClellan has died and their young children are most probably living with in-laws. John M. is their half-brother by an earlier marriage. In the 1860 Tattnall Census James's children by his second marriage have rejoined him. That is where you see Samuel S. Surrency for the first time. Your Samuel Surrency son of Samuel D. and Elizabeth Copeland Surrency who was born 19 Sep 1829 and died in childhood. If you look at the 1830 and 1840 Census, Samuel's age range is present in 1830 and not in 1840. He died between 1830 and 1840. Everyone mixes up James's Samuel S. Surrency or Allen Powell and Wealthy Roberson Surrency with him. I hope this helps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to contact others to Samuel S. Surrency, both he and his brother William fought in the Civil War. William died in the hospital at Charleston, SC. They had a sister named Mary Jane Surrency who married James Daniel Zorn. They are buried at Gum Branch in Liberty Co., GA. There was another boy named John M. Surrency. He married Sabra Roberson(sister to Wealthy who married A. P. Surrency). He is buried at Mendes, GA. John is probably a son from a first marriage. James married again for probably his third marriage to a Hester Sasser or Saucer and started another family. I believe that Hester was a Glisson before her first marriage. After James died, Hester and her children moved to Nassau Co., FL, and are buried down there for the most part. There was one son named Robert Surrency who married a Marietta Brown and moved to Bradford, FL. I can't remember if another son named Jacob Riley Surrency who married Delilah Norton is buried in Nassau or not?! The other boys married married Gay girls. There were some sisters as well. Surrency was the son of James and Mary Clellan Surrency. He married Susan Love, daughter of George M. and Charity Lynn Love. Samuel and Susan had one daughter named Mary "Mollie" Surrency who married William Crummey in Wayne Co., GA. Samuel is living with his daughter and son-in-law in 1900 Wayne. I don't know why he and Susan declared themselves widowed in the 1900 Census? Susan married William Stubbs. Samuel appears to have died in Wayne Co. IMO he is the Samuel Surrency buried at Jesup City Cemetery, not the one from Surrency, GA. Susan and Mary "Mollie" are buried at Love's Chapel Cemetery, Tattnall Co.
