THOMAS, Wilburn; OK,USA; c. 1900 My gg-gf was Wilburn THOMAS, who was in Robertson County, TX, c1890. He was married to Lula WILLIAMS, and they had my g-gm Ida Pierce THOMAS (1891) and another child named Joe. Lula died, with baby Joe dying soon after. Wilburn left his daughter Ida with her maternal grandmother, and he went "back to Oklahoma". His mother was supposedly a full-blood Cherokee. He married a schoolteacher on a reservation and they had two children: Wilburn and Della, who lived in Ardmore in the 1960s. Della married a CUMMINGS. I believe that I have found Wilburn, Jr., in the SSDI, and if so, he was born in 1903 and died in the late 1960s. Wilburn had a (half?) sister named Della THOMAS who never married. She eventually sought out Ida and reunited the children, but I guess Wilburn had passed away by then. (1940s or 50s) There is another family story that Wilburn had a sister named Betty, who was attacked and bit the man's thumb off, then he came back and burned the house down with her still in it. There is also some connection to a woman named Laura CHOATE, but I don't have any details on this. I have some reason to believe that Wilburn may have been the son of Josiah and Manerva THOMAS of Cherokee County, Brazos County, and Robertson County, TX and had a brother named something like "Elzy". If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know!
