GUALMAIO; Cicagna,ITA>Lawrence, MA,USA; 1881-1950 I am researching my grandmother, Maria Balbina GUALMAIO: She was supposedly born in Genoa, Italy on 18 November 1881 and was raised by the Leverone family in Cicagna, Italy. She married Giovanni MALATESTA in 1901 in Cicagna and they had one son, Richard Malatesta. She came to the US in the early 1900's with her son to settle in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She married Paolo (Paul) ANSELMI and had 2 children: Iris Mary in 1916 and Aurelio John in 1917. Actually, I have not been able to locate anyone, in the US or otherwise, who has the surname GUALMAIO or has ever heard of anyone else who has that surname. So, I am also wondering if this surname actually exists. I know that the spelling was not just a recording error from immigration since I have a copy of my grandmother's marriage certificate from Italy with the name GUALMAIO spelled that way. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has ever heard of the surname or has any ideas how to trace its existance.
