THOMPSON John; IRL>PA,USA; 1818-1885 I have 3rd great grandparents that came from County Down, Ireland around the time of the potato famine. I have full birthdates of both John b.16 July 1818 and his wife Mary (Martin?) Thompson b. 10 Nov. 1822. I have found John's naturalization papers, and death records stating his father was Hugh Thompson born in Scotland. I thought I had enough good info to find further info on the couple BUT places I have written to in Ireland basically laugh and say Thompson's are a dime a dozen and not to waste my time or theirs. This was heartbreaking to say the least...anyone out there have better and more helpful advice to share!?!?!?!?? Wanting to trace my Irish roots, Debbie Drescher tdresche@indiana.edu
